DnD Reimagined

DnD Reimagined

My take on what a truly open ended Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying app should be.

The thought process

The thought process

This was a passion project I took on out of a bit of frustration when I realized that the best experience and freedom while playing DnD just wasn’t possible on a phone. I wanted to create something that would bring that full experience to mobile while also looking like it was something out of a video game.

The experience

The experience

The question that constantly came to my mind was what do I want to experience from this app? This question led me down a rabbit hole of UI design that borderline could pass as retro video game art. I wanted to experience the app like I was playing a game.

The interactions

The interactions

Interactions, whether it be micro or macro I wanted them to give movement. In addition to that, I decided to give the app a day and night cycle, where the home screen and various other screens would, with real time change their appearance.

The emporium

The emporium

This is what I decided to call the search section of the app, a place where the user browses through the wares of a shrewd shopkeeper. one of the major driving factors for even undertaking this whole project was because normally this act, of looking up items or classes was locked under a paywall, which to me seemed a bit silly. You should be able to Monetize things, but you shouldn't hinder curiosity because of it.

The approach

The approach

The research that went into making this come to life is where most of the time went, understanding what makes up a character sheet, where I could add a few ideas that occurred to me while not making it look overwhelming, maintaining this design system that I had created while still staying true to the essence of DnD. This process of constant learning, applying and relearning helped me get from point A to B. And I can proudly say that this project encapsulates the core idea that I had to a great degree.
